Antique Honor Shooting Target Deer in Winter 1931

An antique honor shooting target depicting an impressive deer in a winter landscape. It features the handwritten inscription of the winner on the front and of the participants al well as the stamp of the shooting society on the reverse. Shot in Germany in 1931.

The target of honor or king's target is a traditional award in shooting competitions. The tradition is predominantly widespread in southern Germany, Austria and Lower Saxony. Honorary targets are donated and shot in honor of a personality, on the occasion of a birthday, a wedding or a prize shooting competition. They were often artistically designed and hand-painted, especially in the 18th and 19th centuries. With the advent of printing technology, targets were also created using artistic prints.
