Catalog #2309. "Town Boss." A narrative oil sketch white field illustration for "Scotch Valley, (Son of Mary, Son of Martha)" by Mildred Cram, for "American Magazine," August 1927. Oil on illustration board laid to Upson board, initialed center right. Depicts town thugs confronting two young men. Caption: "Gibbs turned as Gladden came forward and, giving his hat a backwards thrust, and said, 'How do you do, Looking for me?'" Housed in a replica deep cove gold frame with chocolate brown velvet liner, fine condition. Title given in artist's catalog.
