Description: Map to illustrate Major E. W. Nesham's paper on the Alaska Boundary Demarcation. Taken from the map showing the routes traveled by the boundary survey parties, published in the joint report upon the survey, Department of the Interior, Ottawa, 1918'. Major Edward William Nesham was a British Army surveyor and cartographer who played an important role in wartime map production in the Middle East during World War two. As head of the Survey Directorate at British Forces HQ in Iraq and Syria, he established an efficient mapping system, ensuring frontline troops had the most up-to-date maps, often sourced from Italian originals and locally overprinted with military grids. His earlier work included surveying for the Canadian Boundary Commission and serving as Surveyor General of Nigeria. . Royal Geographical Society / Major Edward William Nesham.
