BIOGRAPHY:
Ted Seth Jacobs (1927?2015) was a world-renowned American draftsman, painter, and influential art teacher with more than six decades of professional practice. Born on June 11, 1927, he studied at the Art Students League of New York beginning in 1943 under notable instructors including Frank J. Reilly, Vaclav Vytlacil, William Zorach, and Ivan Olinsky, and later taught there himself. Jacobs was a founding faculty member of the New York Academy of Art and taught at the Fashion Institute of Technology. In 1987, he founded his own school, ?cole Albert Defois, in Vihiers, France. He was the author of several important art texts, including Drawing with an Open Mind (1985), Light for the Artist (1986), and A Dictionary of Human Form (2009). Throughout his career, Jacobs exhibited extensively in the United States and Europe, with more than sixty solo exhibitions in cities such as New York, Boston, Washington, DC, and Biarritz. He received numerous commissions across portraiture, murals, landscapes, and still lifes. Renowned for his rigorous classical approach, all of his work was done strictly from life or imagination, without photographic aids. His studio-residence in Les Cerqueux-sous-Passavant, France, is listed on the French national registry of museums and houses a significant body of his work from 1985 onward.
