19th/20th Century Thousand-Arm Bodhisattva (Buddha of Compassion).Created in multiple sections and executed primarily in copper repousse, this is the finest example of its type I have encountered in over 30 years. I have seen many in a wide range of sizes, ages, and qualities?including those in museums and major auction catalogs?and this one surpasses them in sculptural refinement, detail, and artistic coherence. While it may not literally contain 1,000 arms, each arm and hand is rendered with meticulous care, and the workmanship remains consistently high throughout. Equally notable is the treatment of the faces: not only the central serene visage, but also the smallest attendant faces and the fierce deity?every one receives the same level of attention. Most examples reserve their care for the primary face while treating the minor elements more loosely; this piece maintains master-level craftsmanship in every area, even the parts that are difficult to see.

The sculpture radiates a strong spiritual presence, particularly from the central face. Based on the patina and wear, it is probably approaching 100 years old, though it could be slightly younger or older. With pieces of this kind, the skill and devotion of the maker matter far more than the precise dating?and here, both qualities shine unmistakably. Constructed in several sections, as typical for larger examples. There is no visible damage, loss, or repair, only expected wear from age and devotional handling.
