Description
This Winchester Model 1897 is a 12-gauge pump-action shotgun featuring an exposed hammer and a blued finish. The firearm is equipped with a 30-inch barrel chambered for 12-gauge shells with a fixed full choke, featuring a single brass bead front sight at the muzzle. The receiver displays a deep blued finish with an external hammer and a side-ejection port. The furniture consists of a walnut pistol-grip stock and a grooved corncob-style wooden forend. Key markings include the action bar stamped Winchester Model 1897 and the receiver underside bearing the serial number C 73515. The barrel is marked with the two-line address Manufactured By The Winchester Repeating Arms Co. New Haven. Conn. U.S.A. Pat. Nov. 25. 90. Dec. 6. 92. July 21. 96. Feb. 22. 98. June 14. 98 as well as 12 and Full near the receiver. The shotgun is fitted with a textured metal buttplate. Note - All firearms require a federal 4473 background check.
Condition
The blued finish remains deep and glossy over much of the metal surfaces, showing light surface scratches, some thinning on high edges, and silvering on the slide bar from operation. The walnut stock and forend are in good condition with typical light handling marks, dings, and a small hairline crack visible on the right side of the forend wood near the mounting screw. The metal buttplate shows a darker patina and minor surface oxidation. The bore is bright with no significant pitting observed. The action appears to function smoothly, though we have not function-tested this firearm.
