BIOGRAPHY:
Albino Hinojosa (born 1943, Atlanta, Texas) is an American realist painter known for his still lifes capturing everyday moments. He grew up in Kildare, Texas, the son of a Cherokee mother and Mexican-American father. He bought his first artist's brush as a high school senior.
After graduating from Linden-Kildare High School, he attended Texarkana College under Otis Lumpkin, then earned a bachelor's degree from East Texas State University, studying under Charles McGough, Dr. Paul Kelpe, and Jack Unruh. Following graduation in 1966, he worked as an illustrator for Ling Temco Vaught, receiving numerous honors including Best of Show at the Industrial Arts Methods Exhibition in Baltimore (1967). He later earned an MFA from Louisiana Tech University, where he remained as an associate professor, helping develop their Campus Graphics Department.
Since 1969, he has exhibited in fine arts exhibitions nationwide. He is a member of the New York Society of Illustrators. His awards include The Holbein Award from the International Society of Acrylic Painters (2000), Best of Show (2002), and the Artists Choice Award from the International Guild of Realism (2005).
Working mainly in acrylics on masonite, he paints still lifes of garden tomatoes, weathered doors, and overlooked everyday objects. He retired from teaching in 2000 to focus solely on his art.
