BIOGRAPHY:
Carol Gray was born in Brooklyn, New York and now lives in Newark, Delaware where she and her husband have created a cottage garden that serves as an inspiration for her garden paintings. A graduate of Skidmore College, she received an MFA from the University of Delaware in 1980. She has studied with Will Barnet at the Delaware Art Museum and Eugene Leake, former Director of the Maryland Institute College of Art. Gray has participated in numerous museum and gallery exhibitions over the past twenty-five years primarily in the Mid-Atlantic region.Her work has been featured in exhibitions at the Delaware Art Museum, the Arnot Art Museum, New York and the Woodmere Art Museum, Philadelphia and other museum venues. She is represented in numerous corporate and private collections. Her paintings are included in many banks such as M.B.N.A., Bank of Delaware, and recently Wachovia Bank, Winston-Salem.Gray paints her sensations of nature in a unique way that expresses visual pleasure in color and light. Although she id known primarily for her garden paintings, she creates landscapes and waterscapes as well. She works en plein air with a myriad of strokes that create form and space. Whether walking down a garden path or lounging by a lily pond, she accentuates the joyful qualities of the scene before her.A teacher of drawing and painting both privately and at the college level for many years, Gray has been interviewed on the radio at WVUD in '96 on 'plein air painting' and included in the '95 Art in America Annual Guide to Galleries, Museums and Artists and the '90 Edition of American Artists. Judith Zilcher, The Curator of American Painting at the Hirschorn Museum, Washington, D.C. has remarked on her wonderful sense of light and color.
