GARY SIMON - STILL LIFE IMPRESSIONIST PAINTING VASES ON RED TABLE, SOFT YELLOWS
This vibrant still life was done by Virginia Beach artist Gary Simon. Gary has said that his main influences were the early impressionist painters and this painting looks to be a tribute to their work. It is full of movement and color. It is acrylic on canvas and measures 16" x 20". The frame measures 25" x 29". It is signed Simon in the lower right. There are a couple of small nicks in the wood of the frame. The painting is in great vintage condition.
Gary grew up in Virginia Beach, Virginia and studied art at UNC Chapel Hill (1978-80). He describes his work as contemporary Impressionism. Before attending art school his aunt Blanche Plafson (artist) was one of his main teachers in the 60s. He was also influenced by Marvin Saltzman was his art professor at UNC and Helena Guindon in Costa Rica.
