Description
This group of United States coinage consists of a collection of five-cent denomination pieces. The lot includes a 1942 Jefferson nickel struck in a silver-alloy war composition (35 percent silver, 56 percent copper, 9 percent manganese), identified by the large P mint mark positioned above the dome of Monticello on the reverse. The collection also contains several Buffalo nickels, also known as Indian Head nickels, composed of cupronickel. Legible dates within the group include 1926, 1936, and 1937. Various mint marks, including S and D, are visible on certain specimens below the five-cent denomination. All coins feature plain edges.
Weight: 2.863 ozt. All coins are in circulated condition, exhibiting varying degrees of wear from moderate to heavy. Design elements on the Buffalo nickels show significant flattening, though the dates remain legible on the featured pieces. Surfaces show typical contact marks, abrasions, and scattered dark toning consistent with circulation. The 1942 Jefferson nickel displays a greyish tone characteristic of the silver-manganese-copper alloy used during World War II.
