FINE JAPANESE CLOISONNE FOOTED CASKET, MEIJI. Comprising a very fine Japanese Meiji period cloisonne enamel footed casket, of rectangular form with a slightly domed lid resting on six raised legs. The sides banded in varicolored flower heads and repeating patterns, the underside also enameled with a single mum blossom on a scrolling foliate enameled ground. The hinged lid with an exquisite phoenix bird on a turquoise enameled ground, framed by flower heads and a butterfly. The interior gilded and engraved with water scenes. Spectacular. 5.5 x 4 x 3.25 inches (15.2 x 11.5 x 9cm).
