Description
A large and finely hand-knotted Persian Tabriz carpet from Iran, woven in fine wool with silk highlights on a cotton foundation, of mansion/room size. The deep navy-blue field is densely and minutely worked with scrolling floral vinework and centered by an elaborate multi-lobed medallion — ivory, rose, sage and gold with radiating points and pendant finials — echoed by conforming floral corner spandrels, the whole framed by a broad rose/salmon main border of palmette and vine between numerous floral guard stripes. The high knot density gives crisp, curvilinear drawing that stays sharp across the large field, and the silk-highlighted pile catches the light with a soft, shifting sheen. Tabriz, in northwestern Iran, is among the oldest and most esteemed Persian weaving centers, prized for exactly this kind of refined, workshop-precise floral-medallion carpet. A sophisticated statement piece for a formal living or dining room. Measures 9’7″ × 13’4″.
