Other Notes: Jesus Moroles was a well-known American sculptor who became famous for his monumental granite sculptures. After his apprenticeship in Italy, he quickly rose to fame with his unique style of "torn" granite. His works combine the smoothness from different polishing techniques and the rough, hardness found in granite. His sculptures elicit heavy and monumental Minimalist Mesoamerican forms. Perhaps his most notable pieces are the "Lapstrake" in front of the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Houston Police Officers Memorial, a pyramid-like earthwork monument in Houston, Texas. He has six solo exhibitions at Arthur Roger Gallery in New Orleans. Over 2,000 works can be found installed in private, public and corporate locations all over the world, including: the Smithsonian American Art Museum, the Umlauf Sculpture Garden, New Orleans Museum of Art Sculpture Garden and the China International City Sculpture in Beijing.
