A West African terracotta anthropomorphic head in the distinctive Bura-Asinda-Sikka tradition of the Niger River Valley, modeled with a flattened visage, prominent applied eyes, radiating facial scarification, pronounced mouth, and extensively incised coiffure continuing across the reverse. The neck is encircled by raised ornamental bands. Fragmentary with deeply weathered and encrusted surface.

Size: Approximately 7 inches high.

Provenance: Property from an important private collection, assembled by a dealer and collector over more than six decades.

Condition: Fragmentary, with extensive age-related surface wear, encrustation, losses and old breaks, including a substantial transverse break through the head. Please refer to photographs.
