Sterling Horse Show and Trap Shooting Trophies
American, 20th century. A pair of sterling silver trophies, one of two-handled loving cup form and inscribed CLASS 8 / FIRST PRIZE / PRESENTED / BY / THE MANILA CLUB / MANILA HORSE SHOW / 1911 / WINNER, BROWN MARE, MARY ANN / OWNER, LIEUT. J.W. WILEN, 13TH CAVALRY, rising on a stepped circular foot and supported by a detachable wood base, underside of foot marked Sterling / C1759 with an unidentified pictorial maker's mark. The other a cup surround with a central cartouche engraved Indians Trophy / Donated By / E.H. Tripp / Won By / George M. Miller / Sept. 12 & 13, 1911 / Trap Shooters League / Of Indiana, marked Sterling / 728 with an unidentified pictorial maker's mark; largest ht. 12.25 in., silver wt. 17.20ozt (535g).
