One of the very few civilian KE-7A in almost mint condition with perfect Elcan 2/50mm no.276-0487

LITERATURE James L. Lager (ed.), Leica Illustrated History, Vol. I, 1993, p. 228, 232-233.

In 1972, a special version of a black chrome finish Leica M4 made in Canada was supplied to the U.S. Military. It was equipped with a lens, the four-element 50 mm Elcan f/2, which was exclusively designed for this camera. The name of this unique military camera outfit was KE7-A. The military units carry Federal Stock Numbers (FSN) and contract designations. In total, 500 units of the KE7-A were prepared, with serial numbers 1294501-1295000. Just about 440 units were supplied on military order and the approximately 60 units sold on the civilian market represent a production overrun. Those so called civilian KE7-As are lacking in military markings. To locate one of the few civilian cameras is very difficult and they are eagerly sought out by collectors.
