Edith Head Gown and Accessories

Lot 2245 Details

Description
A costume ensemble comprising of a pale taupe cotton batiste gown with ruffled "V" neckline over under bodice of pink (which repeats on front panel of skirt), large full skirt, three horizontal rows of decorative lace and eyelet on skirt, pink front skirt panel with overlay of lace, ribbon set in belt, no label, a cream cotton and net hoop petticoat, label reading, "Under Cover, Harbor City California," one pair black of black leather Mary Jane style shoes, sole label reading, "Quali Craft," no size indicated, an antique beaded floral purse, lining stamped, "PARAMOUNT," beading fringes around bottom hem, a pair of white cotton crocheted gloves, and a floral cameo necklace with matching clip-on style earrings. This dress is a recreation of an original worn by Olivia De Havilland as she portrayed Catherine Sloper in the 1949 film production of "The Heiress." Edith Head most likely selected these items for a model to recreate Havilland's look in "The Heiress" for one of Head's noted 1970s fashion shows, which featured recreations of her iconic film costume designs. This EH includes a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Darren Julien, President of JulienEntertainment.Com.

Condition: Some repairs and light wear to dress, occasional tearing and light wear to petticoat, shoes with medium wear, minor losses to purse with medium/heavy wear to lining, gloves and jewelry fine.
Provenance: From the collection of Edith Head.
