Flip The Frog Money Bank Mechanical Bank

Lot 0541
Made by Saalheimer & Strauss Germany - Circa 1930's Flip the Frog is an animated cartoon character created by Ub Iwerks. He appeared in a series of cartoons distributed by MGM from 1930 to 1933. This was the first example of this rare bank to come to light. Pioneer bank collectors Covert and Gertrude Hegarty found it in the 1950's. Because it is largely delineated by hand, Donal Markey speculated that it was the prototype for the lithographed version that was ultimately produced. Material: Tin
