416. Adolphe Braun (45+) vintage photographs of Egypt. (ca. 1869) A rare group of (45+) vintage original photographs each preprinted with photographer’s name, “Braun a Dornach” on the board mount with numbered descriptions handwritten in ink, in French, on the lower recto. As one of only two firms invited to document the opening of the Suez Canal in 1869, it’s likely that the photographs offered here were produced during an excursion at the invitation of Khedive Isma’il Pasha as described in photograph #15 in the series. Image area varies in size from 7.5 x 9 in. to 7.5 x 10 in. Vertically formatted boards measure 9.5 by 14 in. Horizontally formatted boards measure 12.75 x 11 in. high. Minor chipping at corners and edges with some light foxing observed. In overall good to very good vintage condition with some light surface abrasions visible in raked light.
