Egypt, Late Period, ca. 664-525 BCE. Beautifully carved stone beetle with incised detail on back, face, rear, and legs. Smooth bottom. 1-1/2"L x 1-1/4"W. The heart scarab was used by referring to Chapter 30 from the Book of the Dead, and the weighing of the heart, being balanced by Goddess Mat, of Justice, Truth, & Order.

Provenance: Ex-private German collection acquired before 1980.
