Item Details
Description
Pre-Columbian, North Coast Peru, Lambayeque or Sican culture, ca. 800-1350 CE. Five miniature silver boxes finely detailed with textile-inspired motifs. Each box has a functioning hinged top and was likely used to store precious materials. Unlike metallurgy traditions that utilized metals to create weapons and everyday utensils, metals in South America as well as Central America were mainly used to create adornments and objects indicative of high status. Metallurgy is one of Sican's greatest legacies! 2 boxes ~ 2-1/2"L x 1-1/4"W x 1"D; 1 box ~ 2"L x 1"W x 3/4"D; 2 boxes ~ 1-1/2"L x 1"W x 1/2"D
