Oil on board. Written in pencil on back of frame, "Palm Springs, California Mts & Sand Verbur as in Spring time." Frederick Carl Smith (1868-1955 CA/District of Columbia/Ohio/Norway). Frederick Carl Smith was born in Cincinnati and studied at the Cincinnati Art School, the Ohio Mechanics Institute, and the Academie Julian in Paris with Bougereau, Ferrier, and Constant. For 17 years he worked in Washington DC and then moved to Pasadena, CA in 1917. There he was active in the Laguna Beach art community, and a founding member of the Art Association. THis painting descended directly from the artist's family. Signed lower left. 8" x 12"
