A gilded sterling silver medal by sculptor Cyrus Edwin Dallin (1861-1944). The raised in relief medal depicts a Native American Indian Chief in full headdress / war bonnet with a bow and arrow at his side. The medal was given by the National Archery Association, Nationwide Mail Match and is signed C. E. Dallin, 41 (1941). The obverse is engraved Marvin T. Schmidt, Third Place 1943 and is also stamped Sterling, Balfour (created by the L. G. Balfour Company). Measures 2-5/8" high, 1.5" wide, 3/16" thick.
NOTE: Besides being a sculptor, Dallin was also an Olympic archer. At the 1904 Summer Olympics in St. Louis, Missouri, Dallin competed in archery, winning the bronze medal in the team competition.
