four musicians (Wade Hampton Martin, Swannanoa, North Carolina, 1920-2005): standing man holding bass fiddle, bottom of foot with carved conjoined "WHM", 7-3/4 in., [old repairs to proper right foot, left arm and fiddle peg head, ends of proper left fingers and fiddle bridge missing]; standing man holding guitar, 8-1/2 in.; standing man holding fiddle, 9 in., [old repair to proper right arm, lacking tip of proper right little finger and bow string]; man seated on stump and holding banjo, bottom of stump with carved conjoined "WHM", 7 in.; lot accompanied by copies of two photographs of Wade Martin with these carvings. Provenance: The Estate of the late Louise M. Harry, Grover, North Carolina. Purchased in the early 1950s from Margaret Roberts at Allenstand in Asheville, North Carolina, by Mrs. Harry. Descended in the family.
