Description
1864-65, in the Renaissance taste, with domed base and baluster stem supporting two dishes pierced with shells and chased with interlaced strapwork, the top dish engraved with crest, with an inscription reading "Presented to Viscount Cole BY THE TENANTRY OF THE ENNISKILLEN ESTATES, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS MARRIAGE 12th JULY 1869," approximate weight 144.50 ozt. Both marked on underside of base and exterior base of smaller dish with maker's mark, duty mark, lion passant, and date letter.
Heights 16 inches.

Estate of a Lady, Property from a Midwestern Museum Sold to Benefit the Museum's Accessions Fund

A similar example sold Sotheby's, New York, October 23, 2003, lot 161.

Viscount Cole was the eldest son of William Willoughby Cole, 3rd Earl of Enniskillen, and Jane Casamajor, and gained the title of 4th Earl of Enniskillen. Lowry Egerton (1845-1924) became High Sheriff of County Fermanagh and served as Member of Parliament for Enniskillen from 1880-1885.

Florence Court, the name of the house and estate just outside Enniskillen in County Fermanagh, was the family home since the early eighteenth century. It was given to the National Trust in 1954 by the 5th Earl of Enniskillen, the eldest son of the 4th Earl.
