Description
A group of three WWI George V medals, 1914-15 star, the British war medal 1914-18, and the Allied Victory medal, all awarded to 14468 Private W.G. Read of the Wiltshire regiment, together with a group of four Railway medals, including London & North Western Railway Ambulance for Wolverton Team 1914 silver medal, a London & South Western Railway Centre of the St John Ambulance bronze Long Service medal, a Southern Railway silver medal of 14 years service, and a 9ct gold Southern Railway Centre of St John Ambulance Association medal with clasps for 21, 40 and 45 years service, all awarded to the same recipient W.G. Read, the two groups of medals mounted and cased in fine oak frames handmade by the recipient Private William George Read enlisted at Cowley barracks Oxford in 1914 and transferred to the 9th Wiltshire Regiment, where he acted as servant to Brigadier General Poole 19th Brigade Infantry 26th Division in 1915
