Description
PoliticalRare Panorama of Washington" Print By Charles Magnus

c. 1860, Hand-Colored Lithographic Print, "Panorama of Washington," Depicting George Washington and Vignettes of Scenes in the Capital, Very Fine.
This long narrow print of scenes in Washington, D.C., measuring 31.25" x 9," titled "Panorama of Washington," was published by Charles Magnus of New York City. At the top of this print is a portrait of George Washington, surrounded by flags, military equipment, and the inscription: "First in War - First in Peace - and first in the hearts of his Countrymen." Below this are 30 scenes of buildings and monuments in Washington, including the House Chamber, the Senate Chamber, the Smithsonian, the Navy Yard, the Treasury Building, Williard Hotel, Mills’ statue of Washington, and the Lunatic Asylum. Near the bottom is a large vignette of the Capital Building. This print is slightly faded and toned, has some folds, and has a 3" closed tear through the Washington portrait at the top. Presently mounted in a thin wooden frame (not examined out of the frame), this rare Civil War era "tour of Washington" is attractive and ready for display.
