Lot 0013
The Chrysler Airflow was produced by the Chrysler Corporation from 1934-1937. The Airflow was one of the first full-sized production cars where aerodynamics played a roll in its design. Despite Chrysler’s effort in making a fundamental change in design philosophy, the Airflow was a commercial failure. Carl Breer’s “V” pattern design was replicated from his observation of geese flying in formation as well as the design of aircraft of that period. The Airflow was the first car designed with the use of the newly built wind tunnel. The Chrysler used a unibody construction to strengthen the chassis as well as an innovative suspension due to the car’s superior handling. Weight distribution was 54/46 with nearly a 50/50 weight distribution with passengers, which resulted in nimble handling and superior ride quality for a car of its time. Power was provided by a 299 cu in 130 hp L Head inline eight- cylinder engine and 3-speed manual floor mounted transmission. Offered is a wonderful 1936 Chrysler Airflow. Mostly original, the local car has been garaged and pampered by its owner. This is an opportunity to own one of America’s first Aerodynamic sedans. • 299 cu in. Engine • Unibody Construction • 3-Speed Manual Transmission • Locally Owned
