Description
EDMOND GOYARD (PARIS, 1860-1937) TRAVELING TRUNK, wooden frame with tin bottom, retaining original brass hardware, leather bindings, and lined interior with removable tray. Red-painted initials "R. R." (owner) stenciled to one end. Brass handles and lock marked "E. Goyard / Paris". Excellent uncleaned surface. Late 19th/early 20th century. 13" H, 39 3/4" W, 21 3/4" D.
Provenance: From a West Virginia private collection.
Catalogue Note: Maison Goyard is an historic trunk and leather goods manufacturer and retailer headquartered in Paris. Still in business today, the company was established in 1853, preceding the founding date of its rival company, Louis Vuitton, by one year.
Condition
Excellent overall condition with small loss to leather one side and minor wear to cloth-lined interior. Original leather strap (unbroken) detached but present.
