Rare and important Rookwood Architectural Faience advertising tile showing the company name and two Rooks in flight in a dense forest, designed by Sallie Toohey, circa 1905. The tile bears the Rookwood name in large block letters on the front and is done in rich, Arts & Crafts mat glazes. Marked on the back Rookwood Faience and marked with Toohey's conjoined initials in the lower left hand corner of the front. Size is 14 3/4 by 7 7/8 inches. Very minor firing separations of the edges of the sides have been touched up and there are repairs to minor edge chips which are covered by the new, custom made frame. Another example is pictured on page 89 of "Ode to Nature: Flowers and Landscapes of the Rookwood Pottery 1880- 1940," the seminal exposition of Rookwood at the Jordan-Volpe Gallery in New York in 1980.
