This silver tray was made by Alexander Clark & Co. Ltd. This company was established in 1891 in London by Clift Alexander Clark, who was known as Alexander Clark. The first manufacturing premises were opened in 1894 on Oxford Street and soon others followd in Sheffield and Birmingham. In 1898 the firm became The Alexander Clark Manufacturing Co. 14 years later the name was changed to The Alexander Clark Co Ltd and in 1914 the company had 620 employees in the activities of silversmiths, cutlers, precious stone mounters and dressing bag manufacturers. Around that time, the firm also started specializing in the production of silver, ‘Welbeck Silver Plate’ and electroplate.
The salver is in a very good condition with minimal signs of age and wear. One handle is slightly bent. The dimensions measure 1.9 x 43.5 x 27.3 cm, while the weight is approx. 1,123 grams. (nlu)
