The Amazing Spider-Man #639 Oct 2010 (Mint)

Lot 0017
The Amazing Spider-Man Vol. 1 #639 published October 2010 by Marvel Comics.Character:
Spider-Man is a fictional superhero appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. Created by writer-editor Stan Lee and writer-artist Steve Ditko, Spider-Man first appeared in Amazing Fantasy #15. Lee and Ditko conceived the character as an orphan being raised by his Aunt May and Uncle Ben, and as a teenager, having to deal with the normal struggles of adolescence in addition to those of a costumed crime-fighter. Spider-Man's creators gave him super strength and agility, the ability to cling to most surfaces, shoot spider-webs using wrist-mounted devices of his own invention, which he calls "web-shooters," and react to danger quickly with his "spider-sense," enabling him to combat his foes.

When Spider-Man first appeared in the early 1960s, teenagers in superhero comic books were usually relegated to the role of sidekick to the protagonist. The Spider-Man series broke ground by featuring Peter Parker, the high school student behind Spider-Man's secret identity and with whose "self-obsessions with rejection, inadequacy, and loneliness" young readers could relate. Unlike previous teen heroes such as Bucky and Robin, Spider-Man had no superhero mentor like Captain America and Batman; he thus had to learn for himself that "with great power there must also come great responsibility"—a line included in a text box in the final panel of the first Spider-Man story but later retroactively attributed to his guardian, the late Uncle Ben. Synopsis:
Year ago, on the day before their wedding, Spider-Man busted a fairly innocuous gunman - only for the NYPD to let him slip through their fingers. MJ and Pete proceeded to their respective pre-wedding celebration - MJ to a lavish final bash as a swan song to her party days, and Pete to a modest evening with his best friends, Flash Thompson and Harry Osborn. Pete confided in Osborn and Thompson that he had doubts about his impending marriage - tip-toeing around the truth that his real fear was that his double life as Spider-Man would cost Watson her life. When the big day finally comes, MJ is at City Hall and ready to go - while Pete is knocked unconscious during a skirmish with the very same gunman he'd tried to put in jail a day earlier.Featured Video:

GeekRoom Grading System: Action Figures, Cards, Comics, Magazines, & Toys
Mint: A never-used collectible in perfect condition with complete packaging (including instructions, original attachments, tags, and so on) identical to how it appeared on the shelf in the original box.
Equivalent CGC grade 9.5 or above

Excellent: Used, but barely. Excellent is a small step under Mint, but Excellent can have very minor signs of wear. The wear must be a normal, desirable part of aging or so minor that it’s barely noticeable and visible only upon close inspection. Damage of any sort is not “very minor.” Wear or minor, normal factory flaws should be noted. (Factory flaws are small blemishes common at the time of manufacture — a tiny air bubble under paint, for example.)
Equivalent CGC grade 8.5 to 9.4

Very Good: A well-cared-for item that has seen limited use but remains in great condition. Item and instructions are complete and undamaged but may show some signs of wear.
Equivalent CGC grade 7.0 to 8.4

Good: Item shows wear from consistent use, but it remains in good condition. The original instructions are included and in acceptable condition. The item may be marked, identified, or show other signs of previous use. The item works perfectly and is in good shape overall.
Equivalent CGC grade 6.0 to 6.9

Fair: Items have considerable wear: scratches, worn paint, chips or decals missing. Parts may be missing. Original packaging has considerable damage as well.
Equivalent CGC grade below 6.0
