Lot 1010
Excellent antique Sousaphone musical instrument. Made of thick sheet brass. It is very large and would be carried over the shoulder, often employed in marching bands. Mother-of-Pearl tipped piston valve buttons. The bell can be dis-attached for easier transportation. The three original screws that secure it in place to the body are retained. Well marked. Etched large logo on the front of the Bell - F.E.OLDS & SON of FULERTON, CALIF, inscribed on a scroll against a World Globe. Also marked with the serial number on one of the pistons - 158375 OLDS (in fancy script). Made by F.E.Olds & Son, a company well recognized for it's quality production, founded in the early 1900's. This sousaphone dates back to the c. 1940's. Measurements: 55" x 30" overall (140 cm x 76 cm), 25" bell diameter (63.5 cm). Weighs over 30 lbs. (13.5 kg)

Condition

All original, including screws. Pistons move and include original inner springs, although they would need greasing. Slight dings, deformities and wear on the body, common on antique and vintage Large Brass instruments, but decent shape overall. Look to be no holes or cracks. May use cleaning and polishing. Missing mouthpiece
