Specifications:180hp, 287 cu. in. V8 engine, Hydra-Matic automatic transmission, independent front with rear semi-elliptical leaf springs, four-wheel drum brakes. Wheelbase: 124"Few cars evoke images of Hollywood quite like the 1955 Pontiac Star Chief Convertible. Its star power is a result of a brief cinematic debut on the 100th episode of I Love Lucy, where the entire gang drove out to California. A luxurious convertible conceived as Pontiac's premium model, this car is easily identified by its star-inspired side trim and attractive convertible styling. Its desirability on today's classic car market stems in part from its brief production run from 1954 to 1956, a time when the Star Chief was considered the premium model in the Pontiac lineup. This particular Star Chief just completed a complete frame-off restoration this year to period correct specifications. It has heretofore never been shown. The high quality of the restoration is exceedingly evident as the new convertible top blends nicely into the two-tone aqua and cream paint. The fresh chrome on the car is absolutely spectacular, right down to the chrome wheels, which are shod in proper whitewall tires. In addition to the interesting original Indian head hood ornament, the distinctive "silver streaks" are also visible on the hood which, although not chromed, represented the two cylinder banks of Pontiac's new V8. The upholstery, dash, steering wheel, and door paneling match the exterior of the car and exhibit the same degree of careful craftsmanship. This Star Chief is understood to be mechanically superb thanks in part to an extensive and recent overhaul. The 287 cubic inch V8 is original and runs very well. Meanwhile the transmission, brakes, and wiring are also described as excellent. Exciting options present include power steering, brakes, and convertible top, all of which function seamlessly and reliably. After its short three-year production run, the Star Chief ultimately evolved into the well-established Pontiac Bonneville. As such the original 1954 through 1956 Star Chief not only preceded and inspired the original Bonnevilles but also left an indelible mark on Pontiac history all its own. Featuring a convertible top, V8 engine, and beautiful two-tone paint, this Star Chief is ideal for a leisurely road trip to the beach or a cruise down the Sunset Strip.
