Specifications:6,230 cc, 90 degree V8 engine, twin SU-carburetors, four-speed automatic gearbox, independent suspension with coil springs front and rear, four-wheel disc brakes. Wheelbase: 119.5"When the Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow was first launched at the Paris Motor Show in October 1965, the Rolls-Royce development department was showcasing the result of work carried out over a period of some ten years. Shadows were characterized by surprisingly modern features and with their development Rolls-Royce broke new ground, away from many of its engineering sacred cows. The new models were the first from Crewe to feature monocoque construction, independent suspension and four-wheel disc brakes, which now finally ensured stopping power of the sort that had come to be expected in a modern car. The Shadow featured a 172 horsepower 6.2-liter aluminum block V8 from 1965 to 1969, coupled to the bulletproof, GM-sourced Turbo Hydramatic 400 transmission (except on pre-1970 right-hand-drive models, which used the same four-speed automatic gearbox as the Silver Cloud). The Silver Shadow was destined to become (along with the Bentley T models) the most successful in the history of Rolls-Royce. The company's records show 20,605 Silver Shadows to have been delivered from 1965 to 1977.This very unusual Silver Shadow was converted to estate configuration by original owner Millard W. Newman, cigar magnate of Tampa, FL. Newman was a towering figure in the RR Silver Ghost Club, having owned and restored numerous examples of these significant early cars. A testament to his influence, the Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance features a Millard Newman Award for the best Silver Ghost presented 'in the spirit of Millard Newman.'The car has remained in Florida through the present day and has been maintained in very good and eminently usable condition. Handsome in classic black over dark gray with rich red leather interior, the details such as the cargo compartment appointments are particularly impressive. The perfect choice for picnics in the country or tailgating events, a Rolls-Royce such as this will never let you down.
