Description
This is an exceedingly rare W. & A.K. Johnston 1879 Celestial Globe Edinburch & London 18 Inch on a cast iron original base. The piece is one of W.&A.K. Johnston's earlier globe from circa 1879-1890. The piece has an exquisite cast iron three foot floor stand base on casters. The globe shows the makers mark. The orb shows the heavens in dark blue with the stars and constellation figures. The globe shows all of the dramatic and unusual constellation depictions including: numerous lion, bear, serpent and horse figures; many classical figures: Hercules, Orion, Aquarius and others. Very rare dated and signed globe showing overall good condition. The globe and support both move giving the user the ability to see what the nights sky will hold and where. Measures overall 45" tall and 24" diameter. Retails for over $25,000.
