A wonderful Adams & Westlake brass top bell bottom frame made for the Central Vermont Railroad. This frame features ice spikes on the bell so it is Vermont and not Cumberland Valley. The lid has a very pronounced C.V.R.R. stamping. This is typical on older A&W frames. The frame also uses a glass fount so it is more likely to be New England than mid-Atlantic when tin founts are much more common. The fount also has the shallow glass collar for holding the fount. The bottom of the bell has the ice spikes and the A&W patent information. There are a few tiny pin holes in the bottom of the bell and they ware limited to the area under the fount. This is a common condensation issue with glass founts. The frame has a "spin down" vent assembly rather than a spring assembly to hold the globe. It is a standard 5 3/8" size globe frame. The globe is an unmarked dark green with an extended base. The globe is thick. This is a great display piece.
The Central Vermont Railroad was the Vermont Central Railroad until 1873. It then became the Central Vermont Railway in 1908. This lantern dates to the earlier life of the CVRR name.
