A very nice silver mace cane. The silver knob handle is 1 3/4" high and 1 1/8" in diameter. The top is inscribed in fancy script: "T. S. Kaufman, Syracuse N.Y.". The sides are decorated as a medieval mace bludgeon, and is fashioned with fifteen rounded and pointed nibs. It is marked: "RFS & Co, Sterling". (Rest Fenner Smith & Company was a noted 19 th Century New York City cane maker mentioned on page 261 of Dike"â„¢s Canes in the United States .) The shaft is ebonized malacca that ends with a 1 1/4" white metal and rusty iron ferrule. The overall length is 35 2/3"and the condition is very good. It is ca 1890 and it is a very fine example with an unusual handle. Estimate: $350-$550.
