EXCELLENT WWII ERA JOHNSON MODEL 1941 RIFLE Excellent example of the scarce and desirable Johnson semi-automatic rifle. Competing against the M1 Garand for US military contracts in the late 1930's, the Johnson rifles ultimately were not adopted by the US Army. A handful of these rifles were used by the USMC in WWII South Pacific island campaigns on Makin Island, Guadalcanal and Tulagi. Right rear top of receiver reads "CRANSTON ARMS CO" in triangle. Top of the receiver is marked "CAL 30-06 SEMI-AUTO / "JOHNSON AUTOMATICS" / MODEL OF 1941 / MADE IN PROVIDENCE, RI. U.S.A." with serial number underneath, and patent lines to the back. Green canvas sling dated 1945.
