Reuven Rubin was born in Romania in 1893. He immigrated to Israel in 1912 and settled in Jerusalem. A year after he traveled to Paris to study at École des beaux-art. He then returned to Israel. Rubin's work sings with the joy of living in country sides drenched with sun, blossoming flowers, luscious fruits and in silver foliage of an age-old tree. Rubin identified with the biblical country of Israel, with its people and sunlit land. In his language of imagery he told us biblical parables in a magical and extraordinary way. Rubin is considered one of the most renowned and famous Israeli artists worldwide with works in collections of leading museums such as MoMA (New York), Museé d'art Moderne (Paris), Jewish Museum (New York) and others.

Rubin was 30 years old when he worked on this group of woodcuts, This striking Prophets Portfolio, is a remarkable and beautiful masterpiece by Rubin, a true collector's item. It was created especially for the celebration of Israel's 25th Anniversary. It includes an introduction by Dr. Haim Gamzo, who was then the Director of the Tel Aviv Museum of Art.
"For Rubin 80th birthday, which coincides with the 25th anniversary of the rebirth of Israel, we are proud to honor this distinguished artist by dedicating to him this work of Israel. No other artist has portrayed in his work such joyous colors. The people in his paintings seem embed with breath and warmth and the landscape in his poetic Biblical interpretations is filled with a spiritual translucent light... 'Art is an expression of love' once wrote Rubin. 'I paint what I love... my country, my family and my people. To paint means to sing, and every artist must sing his won way.' " The publishers.
