Artist: BELKIS AYON (Cuban, 1967-1999),Year: 1996,Medium: Collograph with embossing on paper, pencil signed and dated 96 lower right, pencil inscription to verso ''Belkis Ayon Manso, Pieza No 3, S/T, 93.3 x 68cm, colografia, edicion 10/15 ano 1996”Size: 36-3/4 x 26-1/2 in (Framed 26.1/2 x 20.1/4 in),exhibited at the 7th Biennial of Havana at Galeria Habana, December 2000. Her work was based on Afro-Cuban religion, combining the myth of Sikan and the traditions of the Cuban religion. This learning, of course, led her to study the religion in depth, especially its myth of the female Silkán, a narrative she used to make art that continues to fascinate and intrigue art lovers the world over.
