Description
This is an excellent large exceedingly rare Great Lakes Ojibwa Native American Indian pipe that was used by the Chief and elders. The piece is from circa 1870 and is a very well preserved museum quality piece from the Private Texas Ranch collection. The bowl features a lead inlay executed with a geometric pattern decorating the entire piece and having catlinite and steatite inlay. The piece has a twisted or swirl design with one side having a rich red ocher paint and the other a yellow ocher paint. Very fine early Great Lakes Indian pipe and bowl. Overall measures 33 5/8"L with a 5 5/8"L x 2 7/8"H x 1.25"W 'T' style bowl.
