HERSCHEDE MODEL 117 MARQUIS DE LAFAYETTE Grandfather Clock. Includes Keys and Manuals
This is one of the nicest models Herschede ever made
For almost 100 years of fine craftsmanship were used in the making of this fine all hand carved top of the line grandfather clock.
The case is furniture grade matched solid oak and is thick and heavy.
This clock was made towards the end of Herschede's 99 year run with all the improvements and upgrades they made through the years. This grandfather clock and all Herschede clocks have 100.0% American made parts. Herschede was known for making the best grandfather clocks in the world and are fine collector items today.
The movement is twice as thick and heavy as in the German movements installed in the best Howard Miller floor clocks.
The 9 tubular chimes weigh on an average of 5 lbs each. As near as I can tell they are solid harden brass tubes with different plating layers under the hard polished chrome finish, the exact composition was kept a secret by Herschede. The chimes were recently painstakingly calibrated for an even smooth sound and sound a whole lot better than light weight tube chimes I heard on YouTube. Rod chimes are on about 98% of grandfather clocks. You will see tube chimes only on the most expensive grandfather clocks made. Howard Miller made 100's of models of grand father clocks and only one model I know of has 9 tubular chimes and they list for $26,000 elsewhere. The face of the clock has a lot of heavy gold over a thick brass plate unlike other fine floor clocks with just a thin polished brass tinny face. The moon dial is beautifully hand painted and moves more often in smaller steps than other clocks.
The weight cables are twice as thick to support the heavy 26 pound chime weight. There are 9 heavy glass panels in the clock case.
The clock ticks very softly for a clock with such a big heavy clock movement. The clock keeps perfect time and should last for many generations with just normal maintenance and care as it always had and still looks as new.
The clock comes with two keys, Herschede owner's manual, and all the brochures that came with this fine clock.
