Description
Serial # 9052 .50-70 caliber, barrel length 32-1/2". This is actually the first true Trapdoor rifle. Features include: a US Springfield lock with eagle dated 1863, the breech block is dated 1869 with eagle head and "US", the serial number can be found on left side of barrel and frame, the cartouche is present but faint (ESA in oval), as well as the 2nd cartouche, unit no 20 stamped on left side. It has two barrel bands, front band is stamped "U". Butt plate is stamped "US". early style rear sight. Overall, in excellent condition. Stock has a couple of dings but it is nice overall. All metal surfaces are a smooth patina. Very good, strong bore with minor powder abrasions.
