AMERICAN NEEDLEWORK SAMPLER WITH FAMILY REGISTER, dated 1811, by Ruth Carter, mounted within a gilded frame, image size 15-3/4 inches by 15-1/2 inches, the ground with floral vines, a bird, a butterfly and willow or palm trees, inscribed "My grand Parents George & Lyala Carter.. George & Martha Martin..My Parents George & Ruth Carter" "My Brothers & Sisters Margaret .. Emmor Lydia....Continued George Joseph.. Martha & Rebecca Carter", with the prayer "O may I stand before the throne when earth and seas are fied and hear the Judge pronounce my name with blessings on my head... when I am in The silent grave", further inscribed "This work of mine My friends may have.... Ruth Carter _____ worked in The 12th year Age 1811" (Est. 1000-1500)
Condition
Condition is as expected with respect to the age of the sampler. Three small areas of loss to the ground, (visible in photos). Two on the upper left (above and to the right of the palm), and one on the upper right (next to the left side of the palm).
