Collection of Robert Strotman
(Lots 3823 - 3859)

Robert Strotman, Chinese name Zheng Yongxiang, was born in 1933 at Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. Due to a keen interest in oriental culture since he was young, he traveled to Taiwan in 1961 as a missionary and lived in Asia for over 40 years. Mr. Strotman worked in Commercial Section of American Institute in Taiwan since 1986 and transferred to Consulate General of the United States in Guangzhou China as Commerce Consul in 1994 for 3 years, and he returned to Los Angeles of USA after retiring in 2000.
Mr. Strotman’s love for oriental culture allowed him not only to become proficient in Mandarin and Taiwanese language, but also be a prolific Chinese antique collector. During his stay in Asia, Mr. Strotman expanded his antique collection through purchases, and during the late 80’s, as the Chinese antiques and art started flowing back to China, he further enriched his collection, including purchases from famous Chinese antique collector Harvey West, the director of University of Washington Art Museum who brought over 300 pieces of Chinese relics from The Palace Museum to America via 7 Boeing 747s and held one of the most successful Chinese art exhibition in USA.
In early 2016, Mr. Strotman’s family consigned part of the collection to Mega International Auction, hoping to spread the antiques for all to view and collect.
