A very seldom encountered example, dating to the Safavid Dynasty. The bowl of deep hemispherical form, wrought of superior black Persian wootz with original glossy finish, set with a pair of plumeholders, an adjustable nasal and elegant top spike, all with en suite piercing and gilding. Superbly chiseled throughout, including scrolled panels of interlacing vinework, flowers and pairs of birds, amongst broad bands of fine Nastaliq calligraphy at the rim, with fine inlaid gold borders throughout. Retains its original camail of fine iron rings with geometrical patterns worked in brass rings bordered in long, tapering termini. Late 17th century. Lower edge of nasal terminal lacking, wear to gold borders, minor losses to mail. Height including camail 70cm. Condition II_x000D_
