K-099 Lot of Spanish-American War items related to the same individual: (1) Colorful framed certificate recognizing the service of "Garfield Harrer", a private in the 26th Infantry Regiment who served in the Philippines. A total of 13 colorful graphic presentation of war scenes and America's military and political leaders. Harrer's information is linked into the center panel which states his time of service as well as "Continuous active field service in the Philippines from October 27 - 1899 to March 6 - 1901". Also listed are the scrimmages and engagements which Harrer took part in. With the original period 31 1/2" x 25 1/2" oak frame. (2) Group unit portrait photo - taken in the field. Tag on reverse reads "...PHILIPINE INSURRECTION - COMPANY L - US VOLUNTEERS 26TH REGIMENT - FAR RIGHT FRONT ROW GARFIELD HARRER". Oak frame 12 5/8" x 14 1/2". (3) Photo of barracks building in the Philippines. Group of soldiers standing in front and a sand bag emplacement at the right side of the building. In original frame 10 3/8" x 12 5/8". (4) 4 1/4" x 3 7/8" photo of Harrer in field uniform, holding a krag rifle with a fixed bayonet. (5) A period round celluloid photo of Harrer wearing an M1895 undress coat. 4" diameter. (6) Lot of 21 Span-Am Period buttons (15 Infantry eagle buttons, 4 staff and 2 plain domed buttons). (7) Small lot of "1890's shrapnel...". (8) Lot of four cartridge casings: 2 Spanish brass 1 lb, brass 4 3/8" insurgent casing, and an interesting insurgent made 5" cartridge casing from a tomato can - with a wood projectile (with the partial period ID card from a display). (9) Metal 3 3/4" projectile and a drilled .45 cal cartridge to accommodate a key chain. (10) Period 11 5/8" x 14 5/8" framed photo of what appears to be a convention gathering of Civil War veterans. All subjects are wearing reunion ribbons. Probably includes the grandfather or relative of Harrer. An interesting grouping. II
