Description
Pre-Columbian, Costa Rica to Nicaragua, Gunacaste, ca. 750 to 1000 CE. Important seated pottery female painted in vibrant geometric patterns, holding her hands to her hips with truncated legs and ample thighs - probably an indication this is a fertility figure. Size: 6.5" H (16.5 cm)

Published, Hasso Von Winning, Pre-Columbian Art of Mexico and Central America, New York, pl. 523, page 362, full color plate, published January, 1968

Provenance: Ex-Sotheby Parke Bernet 2/11/77 lot #42, still retain original auction tag. From the collection of Professor Robert Williamson, Lehigh University
