17th Century fumed tiger oak chest on stand

Lot 0018 Details

Description
A true antique. This remarkable and beautiful chest on stand has been well used and one cannt help but wonder who it belonged to. It bears the initials BE with a cross above it on the bottom stretcher and the initals TM on the left side panel on the coffer. It has one drawer below the chest that opens with two doors but is one compartment. There is also a drawer above the chest. It has the original green lining which is in an aged state. It is structurally very strong but does have damage especially to the feet, from years of being relocated and used. The front panels are inlaid with tulips and other flowers leading us to believe that it may be of Dutch origin. of this, of course, we cannot be certain. Dimensions: 46 1/2 x 18 x 45 1/2.
Condition
It is nearly 400 years old, and it shows. Its lock is missing and there is damage to the feet. It has some old borer holes but is otherwise very solid. The fumed exterior is beginning to rub and the tiger oak is just visible underneath. It is for an antiquarian enthusiast.
